AI Machine Learning Algorithm Provides 91.5% Accuracy In Tracking Water Pollution

AI machine learning in water management offers accurate prediction of pollution.

AI and pollution is the next scientific breakthrough that will ensure equal access to clean and safe water. However, severe pollution and poisoning occurs in lakes, rivers, wetlands and oceans all over the world. Eventually, this is a threat to not only the health of people but also their very existence. Artificial Intelligence (AI machine learning) has resulted in a breakthrough in AI and water pollution quickly and accurately.

The Chief Sustainability Officer at CGI, Mattie Yeta expressed confidence in the new innovation.

“Following a successful first phase of the project, which led to the creation of an AI and satellite tool that can predict pollution events with up to 91.5% accuracy, we are excited to launch this second phase, which provides an innovative and proactive approach to environmental management and nature protection.” She said in a statement.

How does AI reduce water pollution?

Artificial intelligence refers to systems or machines that perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, and can iteratively improve themselves over time, based on the information they collect.

Currently, researchers and scientists are utilizing Artificial Intelligence in a variety of ways. For instance, AI applied to investigate, understand and protect our water sources. See more here.

AI machine learning uses advanced algorithms to monitor water quality information. The application of AI in water pollution offers a new hope for improved water quality. Therefore, the new technology will detect changes in pH levels, temperature, total dissolved solids and other parameters. Researchers are using it to identify any potential issues in water quality and alert operators to potential problems before they happen.

AI and water pollution benefits

A report by the Global Commission on the Economics of Water (GCE) revealed that just recycling occurs only for 20% of wastewater. Far less is recycled, contributing to a global shortage of clean water. The report claimed that demand for freshwater will outweigh its supply by 40% by 2023.  We live in a data-driven economy and AI-driven world. The new breakthrough, AI and water pollution will enhance predictive capability. The Chief Sustainability Officer acknowledged AI’s role in predicting pollution.

“We’ll give it all the geographic information, as well as, data sets from the sensors for it to learn and develop the predictive mechanisms to inform where these incidences are occurring and indeed when they will take place.” Mattie Yeta

Therefore, AI can identify sources of water pollution as its system can detect and analyze patterns in water quality, allowing them to pinpoint sources of pollution.

AI-based systems can as well detect changes in water quality in real time, allowing them to detect and alert authorities to any changes in water quality. This can help to ensure that water quality is maintained and that any potential sources of pollution are identified and addressed quickly. AI machine learning in water pollution aims to improve the accuracy in detecting and addressing water pollution.

The Role of AI machine learning in detecting water pollutants

AI innovation has provided a solution to water pollution and therefore made our life healthier. This acquires information from a distance and quickly transforms it on satellites to detect in real-time pollutants.

AI machine learning application in water pollution is helping to understand the complex interplay of climate impacts on our Earth system, and how climate change is impacting the safety and quality of our water.

In addition, AI is used to predict future water pollution events and suggest preventive measures before it happens. For example, this can be done as AI-based models analyze data from weather forecasts, land use, and other sources to identify areas at risk. This is a positive impact as  helps water managers and policymakers to plan prior and eventually take steps to prevent water pollution. The artificial intelligence innovation also diagnoses and detects problems in water treatment.

Overall, AI machine learning algorithm is playing a crucial role in water mitigation strategies. By detecting and identifying pollutants, identifying sources of pollution, and developing solutions to reduce water pollution. AI and water pollution is the solution to a safer and cleaner water.
